Understanding Multi-Level vs. Single-Level Travel Approval

Understanding Multi-Level vs. Single-Level Travel Approval

Routespring offers a flexible travel approval system to meet your organization’s unique needs. One such customization is the ability to configure multi-level travel approval workflows, available upon request through your assigned Customer Success Manager.

Custom Feature – Enabled on Request

By default, Routespring uses a simple and efficient single-level approval process. If your organization requires a more complex approval structure, we can enable multi-level approval based on your internal policies—only after a consultation with your Customer Success Manager to ensure it’s the right fit.

Important Considerations for Multi-Level Approvals

While multi-level approvals offer more control, there are limitations that should be considered:

  • Booking delays: Each additional approval step adds time to the process, which can delay ticket issuance.

  • Fare increases and availability issues: Flight fares and hotel availability can change rapidly. Delays from multiple approval layers often result in higher prices or sold-out options.

  • Poor travel experience: These delays can lead to frustration for travelers and missed opportunities to secure optimal travel options.

For this reason, we recommend enabling multi-level approvals only if absolutely necessary.

Why Single-Level Approval Is Ideal

Most Routespring customers benefit from a single-level approval process, which offers several advantages:

  • Faster approvals – Quick approvals mean bookings can be completed in a timely manner.

  • Better pricing and availability – Reduces the risk of price hikes or losing out on preferred travel options.

  • Fare hold support – Where applicable, Routespring can hold flight fares for up to 24 hours to help minimize price and availability changes.
